I breathed, finally - Coronavirus April 3, 2020

The sun slipped between the drapes and frame
to do a line on me.

Usually turn over and sink back into the dream
but today I was energized.

Looked outside and saw the people
dressed like the invisible man.

Stood in the window with my shirt off—
it was 11:30 and someone was smoking.

Put on sweats and walked my dog, Luke—
covered my mouth and stepped aside.

Walked around the block with my eyes in the sky.
If it got bad, I’d hate being grounded.

Turned the corner and saw the ocean before me—
the deepest blue with the bluest backdrop.

Bright pink jogged in the distance….
Nothing to do so I followed until I couldn’t.

At the crosswalk, a car didn’t stop—I was stoic—
Luke enjoyed the pause, anyway. Snif-snif..

As I climbed the steps, the crazy lady came out.
I fumbled for the keys—“Ok, have a good one!”

I closed the door and took a moment—I don’t know—
Luke sat at my feet, waiting.

“Okaaay” I breathed, finally.
